Located in South Surma Upazila, on the southern fringes of Sylhet, North East Medical College was established in 1996 with the united effort of some reputed doctors and social workers in the heart of Sylhet.

It offers a bachelor's degree in medicine (MBBS) and a post-graduate degree (MD/MS) in various subjects. The college has been approved by the Government of Bangladesh, recognized by NMC and BM&DC, and enlisted in the WHO, the World directory of Medical Schools.
