Description
BDS course in Nepal consists of four and a half years full-time study and one year of compulsory rotating internship. The first & second year component deals with the basic medical sciences common to other undergraduate medical degree programs. The third year component deals basically with clinical subjects. They will learn related disciplines such as General Medicine, General surgery including Anesthesiology, Forensic Dentistry and Oral Pathology. The fourth year component comprises of phase I & phase II which deals with various dental problems from the patients perspective. Students will learn the essential knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for the practice of dentistry.
Eligibility
- Passed 10+2 Science or equivalent (with Physics, Chemistry and Biology) with 50% aggregate in total marks or GPA 2.4
OR
- Secured the Percentage equivalent to above eligibility in regards to the certificate level programs (A-Level) with different grading system
OR
- Applicants who have passed the Health Science Proficiency Certificate Level/Diploma (General Medicine, Medical Lab Technology, Ophthalmic Science, Dental Science, Pharmacy, Ayurveda, Radiography, Physiotherapy) containing Physics, Chemistry and Biology with Certificate of Equivalence to Grade 12 Science program from National Examination Board
AND
- Secured at least 50% aggregate in total marks both in Diploma and the Examination for equivalence
AND
- Registered in Nepal Health Professional council or Nepal Pharmacy Council or Nepal Ayurveda Council as per related educational program.

As a precursor to the establishment of a University, a team dedicated people first established Kathmandu Valley Campus in 1985 to provide education in Intermediate of Science (I.Sc). The same team proposed the establishment of Kathmandu University. After thorough discussion on the proposal in the Parliament, Kathmandu University was granted by an Act of Parliament on December 11, 1991.
Kathmandu University School of medical Sciences (KUSMS) is an institution established in collaboration between Kathmandu University and Dhulikhel hospital.
